December 4, 2011: In health and fitness update, at least 3 in 1000 children are born with the clubfoot deformity. Never heard about it? Wouldn't blame you…not many are aware about the disease.
The clubfoot deformity is basically a birth defect that causes a newborn baby's feet to point down and inward. While clubfoot does not cause pain, it can cause long-term problems, affecting the child's ability to walk. However, if properly treated, the clubfoot deformity can often be cured in early childhood.
The IGICH, in Bangalore, stated that almost 30 parents participated in the meet with their children who have been cured. Up till now about 250 children have been treated by the hospital with the deformity.
The IGICH provided free treatment for the deformity in association with CURE international, a global NGO working to eradicate disabilities from the society.
The deformity, if treated within 1or 2 days of birth, can be completely cured. The problem lies where people are not aware about it!
